GÖKHAN KIRDAR
Known for his work as a lyricist, composer, arranger, and producer, Gökhan Kırdar first came to prominence in 1991 with “Karanlığın Gizi,” a song for which he wrote both the lyrics and music, performed at the White Dove Song Contest. In the 1990s, he reached a wide audience with “Yerine Sevemem,” which became one of the unforgettable hits of Turkish pop music. His composition “Gece, Melek ve Bizim Çocuklar,” named after Atıf Yılmaz’s 1994 film of the same title, followed by his 1995 song “Tutunamadım,” left a distinctive mark, reflecting the musician’s mysterious, authentic, and dark musical sensibility.
Never abandoning his musical explorations, Kırdar experimented with the trip-hop genre for the first time in Türkiye with his 1997 album “Trip.” In the same year, he founded the music company Loopus and went on to compose the iconic soundtracks for some of Türkiye’s most-watched television series, including “Kurtlar Vadisi,” “Haziran Gecesi,” and “Yabancı Damat.” His albums “Ethnotronix,” released in 2002, and “Keyf/Pleasure,” released in 2004, featured compositions blending electronic, folk, country, and ethnic music. His 2005 album “Tüür – Yağmur Duası” became the first work in the world to combine Central Asian music therapy knowledge and instruments dating back to 10,000 BCE with electronic and rock music.
Kırdar released his album “Dem i Öz” in 2020. His composition “Cendere,” created for the television series “Kurtlar Vadisi,” was played by DJ Mahmut Orhan at the renowned Burning Man festival in 2024, gaining international recognition.
