Yarışma Dışı | Jannis Alexander Kiefer
In his debut feature film, director Jannis Alexander Kiefer provides a glimpse into the lives of a seemingly stagnant community while exploring the realm of dark comedy.
Set in the East German village of Wiesenwalde, the only local attraction is the birthplace of a classical composer. When an American film crew arrives to shoot a World War II series, the villagers see this as an opportunity to pursue their own dreams. However, an unexpected power outage and a missing tank threaten to upend all their plans.
Like his previous works, Kiefer reflects the complex and unstable microcosms of small communities in this film. He notes that a visual design has been crafted to support this intention. He emphasizes that the film focuses not on Hollywood but on the absurdity, fears, hopes, and longings of the 'little person' living in a forgotten town situated in a neutral zone in the heart of former East Germany.
Through this film, enhanced by a rich and meaningful visual language, Kiefer offers a tragicomic perspective on German history, told through the story of a small community.
