ULUSLARARASI FİLM YARIŞMASI | Yönetmen: Çağla Zencirci
Co-directed by Çağla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti, Confidante is set in Ankara in 1999. The film tells the story of how an ordinary workday for Arzu, an employee at a 0800 hotline center, is turned upside down. When an earthquake strikes parts of Turkey, Arzu receives a call from a young customer and must find a way to rescue him from the rubble. However, the task is so dangerous that it could cost her her own life.Arzu is a courageous character who struggles against the gender-based obstacles she faces as a woman. Despite these challenges, she manages to defy all odds. Although the film is set entirely within a call center, it creates a gripping suspense that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. Arzu's story brings visibility to individuals often overlooked in cinema, shedding light on essential topics such as sexuality, sex work, gender roles, and oppression. Çağla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti succeed in crafting a captivating narrative that continues to resonate with social norms and conflicts even decades later.
