Ulusal Belgesel Özel Gösterim | Nurgül Bayram
The documentary reveals the story of Turkey’s first university theatre and its influential role on the country known by few people today: “The Youth Theatre.” It marks the genesis of contemporary social theatre in Turkey that acted as a hub for artists to bloom, featuring a key impact in the history of Turkish theatre with its plays and pristine achievements of success, opening the doors to international zones for Turkish theatres.
Formed by young people of the Republic on May 19, 1953 The Youth Theatre was a big wave for generations’ world of ideas and art, inspiring and opening the way for countless amateur and private theatres.
Until 1968, the Youth Theatre served actively as a conservatory, and many of today’s master actors performed their first scenes within this period. Even though some of these people did not continue their professional careers in theatre, they all had the notion: “Education Rises from Theatres.” So, many of them traveled to every inch of Anatolia and carried theatre to the most remote villages. Later on, some of “The Youth Theatre” people continued their careers as professional artists, and others became filmmakers, journalists, cartoonists, illustrators, archaeologists, lawyers, doctors, businesspeople, politicians, parliamentarians, and mayors to serve their country.
The production of the documentary took 3 years, during which 40 major names have been interviewed. Some of these greater names have passed away recently, leaving a heritage of multidimensional wealth in culture. Previously unpublished photographs of the period are showcased within the coverage of the movie.
With its artistic and intellectual stance, yesterday's “Youth Theatre” will always shine on for younger generations.
