YARIŞMA DIŞI BELGESEL ÖZEL GÖSTERİM | Yönetmen: Bahriye Kabadayı Dal
The kemençe and horon hold a magical power for all Black Sea people around the world. The film takes the audiences on a journey from Turkey to Greece, following the trail of music, dance, and Black Sea culture. The film's main character, Beşköylü Adem is a young musician with a traditional lifestyle. After spending his early youth in Istanbul, Adem returns to his hometown of Trabzon, gets married, and has three children. Today he continues to live in his village with his wife and children, while also organizing joint concerts with musician friends from Turkey and Greece, performing traditional Black Sea folk songs. In Turkey, Black Sea culture is nourished by the lush green nature and the waves of the turbulent sea into which its people are born. The same culture is kept alive in many cities in Greece, especially in Thessaloniki, by migrants who moved from the Black Sea region between 1916 and 1922. Their culture is nourished by their migration stories, memories of rebuilding their lives, and of course, horon and kemençe. Today, most Black Sea people in Turkey are unaware that this culture, almost identical to their own, also exists in Greece. Yet, even though borders separate them, music and dance (kemençe and horon) are a unifying element for people scattered across the same geography. The film tells the story of Adem and his friends, whose sympathetic character builds cultural bridges between peoples and gives rise to new stories of hope in the face of prejudice.
