ULUSAL BELGESEL FİLM YARIŞMASI | Yönetmen: Ali Urgancı
Kendal’s story unfolds as a cycle that begins in the streets of Beyoğlu and moves through compulsory service in Esenyurt, a period at his mother’s home, and visits to relatives in Diyarbakır. The camera sometimes adopts his gaze to record everyday experience from within, and at other times approaches the scene through the eyes of any passerby, pointing to the city’s collective memory. In this way, the film seeks to relate an individual life story to the continuities and transformations of the urban fabric. A Statue for Kendal is a docufiction focusing on a character often defined by glue addiction, yet looking beyond this label to explore his invisible ties with the city, his bodily presence, and the ways of holding on to life in the streets.
