SINIRLARDAN SINIRSIZLIĞA | Yönetmen: Cherien Dabis
Promised Sky is Erige Sehiri’s second feature film. Selected in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the film was nominated for multiple awards. The story follows Marie, Naney, and Jolie. Marie, a journalist and also a pastor who has lived in Tunisia for many years, works with refugee children in need of shelter or reunion with their families. But when they welcome a young orphan girl named Kenza into their home, the women’s lives are turned upside down. As the family gradually reshapes itself around Kenza, their sense of solidarity is tested in a tense social climate, ultimately revealing both the strength and fragility of their bonds. At times humorous and at times heartbreaking, the film brings Marie, Naney, and Jolie vividly to life on screen. Having emigrated from Côte d’Ivoire to Tunisia in search of a better future, these three women manage to stay together despite their differences and contrasting expectations. Even while facing individual struggles, they try to make Kenza part of their family, resisting the external pressures of government and society. Slowly unfolding like a drama rooted in the everyday, the film conveys a powerful sense of urgency and contemporary relevance from beginning to end.
