Ulusal Uzun Metraj Film Yarışması | Ümran Safter
Right Where I Left You is about a woman forced into a soul-tearing road trip across Turkey following her brother’s suicide. Nihan has to come to terms with the contradictions between her worldview and what is deemed appropriate by religion and society. The film also looks at the generational differences that exist while considering life… and death.
The interactions between the 4 people in the car - and Nihan’s own internal reflections - comprise the film's narrative. The linear part of the narrative follows Nihan’s attempts to convince the village imam (priest) that her brother’s death was not suicide. Otherwise, he will refuse to perform the funeral - as suicide is a major sin. This puts her at odds with Salim, her relative, who is driving them home.
